The Rose Garden of Chandigarh

On my way from Amritsar to Dehradun I had to stay a night in Chandigarh. I arrived in Chandigarh late at night and had to leave just after lunch time so I didn’t had a lot of time to see the city. Despite the limited time I had I decided that I needed to see something in this city.

“People come to this park with their family’s to have a picnic”

The Zakir Hussain Rose Garden, the perfect spot to walk around and enjoy the beautiful flowers and weather. The rose garden is named after India’s former president Zakir Hussain. The garden was established in 1967 under the guidance of Chandigarh’s first chief commissioner. The Rose Garden is the largest rose garden in Asa and is spread over an area of over 40 acres and has more than 32500 plants with over 825 varieties of roses.  The garden has not only roses, but also trees of medicinal value. The garden has not only roses, but also trees of medicinal value. Some of the medicinal plants that can be spotted here are bel, bahera, harar, camphor and yellow gulmohar. The rose plants have been planted in carved-out lawns and flower beds.

Arriving at the garden there were a lot of stalls where you could buy some food or drinks to have in the park. Walking through the entrance I saw a gigantic pergola with roses, and it was full of flowers. Further in the park there were a lot more roses and some of the species are really rare but all of them are really beautiful.

People come to this park with their family’s to have a picnic under one of the many trees. You will also see a lot of young people who fell in love with each other and they come to the park to enjoy the beautiful scenery and flowers.

The Rose Garden of Chandigarh is really big, it is too bad that I couldnt see all of the park because I didn’t had enough time. You could easily walk around for hours and enjoy all of the beautiful flowers.
